Global Innovators Conference 2013: Leading and Learning in Technical and Vocational Education and Training

 From April 4-7, 2013, the College of the North Atlantic-Qatar in  partnership with UNESCO-UNEVOC, and under the sponsorship of Qatar  Petroleum will be hosting a major international education conference in  Doha, Qatar, entitled Global Innovators 2013: Leading and Learning in  Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). 
 
 The conference will focus around 5 central themes: 
 
 - Leadership and Innovation in TVET 
 - Applied Research and TVET
 - Teaching and Learning in TVET 
 - Student Counseling 
 - Supporting Learners in TVET
 
 Our keynote speaker line-up includes:
 
 -Matthew Crawford - bestselling author and international advocate for vocational education
 -Eric Chester - founder and President of Generation Why, Inc., a  training and consulting firm helping leading companies and organizations  recruit, train, manage, motivate, and retain the very best of this new  generation.
 -Drs. Bill Lucas and Guy Claxton - Directors of the Centre for Real World Learning
 -Dr. Maryellen Weimer - Editor of 'The Teaching Professor', a monthly  newsletter on teaching and learning with over 75,000 subscribers. 
 -Dr. Mark Milliron - Chancellor of WGU Texas and former Director for  Post-Secondary Improvement with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
 -Dr. Brian Little - award winning psychology professor
 -Dr. Patch Adams - both a medical doctor and a clown, but he is also a  social activist who has devoted 30 years to changing healthcare systems.  Dr. Adams will speak on 'The joy of Caring'.
 -Mr. John Baker, President of Desire2Learn
 -Markus Maurer, a senior lecturer in vocational education training at  the Zurich University of Teacher Education where he established a  research unit on vocational education.
 
 Plenary Sessions
 
 Opening Plenary Panel 
 
 To kick-off the three day conference, a four-member international panel  of invited speakers will discuss the current status of TVET by bringing a  variety of theoretical and practical perspectives by drawing on  projects from around the globe.
 
 Ideas in Action 
 
 An international panel of invited experts will highlight current best  practices globally, regionally, and locally in TVET programming and  delivery to give a broad overview of innovation in TVET. Special  attention will be paid to recent practical successes in transforming  technical education and training. Representatives from UNESCO will  reflect on outcomes of the UNESCO International Conference on TVET  (Shanghai - 2012), highlighting examples of best practice in the sector  with emphasis on entrepreneurship human resource development for  national capacity building.
 
 Closing Session 
 
 To synthesize the conference outcomes, speakers will explore the future  of TVET as it pertains to providing learners with the necessary skills  to meet the 21st century labour market demands within sustainable  contexts.
